I worked the starting line for Jimmy Nix that year [1969]. All top fuel cars were pushed to start on the hot lane running beside the track. Once started, they turned around the back of tower onto the staging lane onto the track. The hot gate green light was lighted for Cagle's push start for the run. His throttle stuck open and he went threw the chain link fence shearing off one of the metal poles that hit him and going threw his helmet. I was the first one to get to him. It was not something I will ever forget. [Jim Fitzgibbon, email to site administrator, 5/17/2018]
